BROWN DIAMOND: MYSTICAL DISCOVERY

INDIANA Jones couldn't have done better. For more than eight years, engineers dreamed of finding a mythical treasure, said to have been stashed by Japanese invaders and rumored to be worth millions and millions of pesos. For eight years, they labored in secret to put together a unique metal detector that could help pinpoint the location of the treasure. Shrouded in mystery, the search went on for years and the adventures almost went bankrupt in what appeared to be a seemingly fruitless enterprise.

How the search was conducted, where it was conducted and how the treasure was finally located will never be disclosed. The treasure hunters vowed never to say anything about of their secret except that the treasure was found and the samples were authenticated by no less than the Petrolabs, Lands Geology Division, Laboratory Service Project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Precious Stone
Petrolab chief Lilian A. Rollan released the results of the Megascopic/Microchemical Testing Laboratory Report of Megascopic Analysis and the following findings were made public:
"Texture: The sample appears to consist of two layers of different rock types. The first layer is Chert. It is very dense, hard (H>6 on Moh's Scale), brown colored rock exhibiting conchoidal fracture and waxy luster; hence is probably composed of cryptocrystalline silica aggregates (chalcedony). It is also peppered with abundant minute opaque like impurities.

The second layer is siltstone. It is buff colored and exhibits clastic texture composed dominantly of quartz and plagioclase fragments cemented together by cryptocrystalline silica.

Mysticism
The find, considered a treasure by the hunters because of its rarity and value, is dubbed the "brown diamond crystal stone" and reportedly measures some 1 ft. x 3 ft.x 10 ft. and weighs about half a ton. It was found inside a tunnel measuring 1 meter in diameter and 8.1 meters below ground level in an undisclosed remote place in Luzon. The finders-keepers has the information relative to its mystical properties lifted from the Grolier International Dictionary. Precious stone is defined by Grolier as "any various minerals such as diamond, ruby or sapphire, valued for their rarity or appearance;" Chalcedon is "translucent to transparent milky or grayish quartz with distinctive microscopic crystal arranged in slender fiber in parallel bands, a mystical stone perhaps after Khalkedone, an ancient town in Asia Minor; "Mystical Stone is "characteristic of mystics of the nature of mysticism; it is no mystical institution but an analyzable conception" or "believing in or practicing mysticism" or "any belief in the existence of  realities beyond perceptual or intellectual apprehension but central to being and accessible by intuition" or "confused and groundless speculation and superstitious self-delusion."

Silica is described by Grolier as "a white or colorless crystalline compound, occurring abundantly as quartz, sand, flint, agate and clay." Silt is a sedimentary material consisting of fine mineral particles intermediate in size between sand and clay.

In Revelation 21:19, this line appears: "and the foundation of the wall of the city were garnish with all manner of precious stones, the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eight beryl, the ninth topaz, tenth chrysoparaus, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst." Note that the third layer of precious stone is chalcedony, a mineral present in the brown diamond find.

According to legends as narrated by the lucky hunters the stone possesses mystical powers. King Solomon is said to have worn it both as a symbol of his supreme authority and as an amulet or charm to guard against treachery and evil spirits and for longevity. Although unsubstantiated, the hunters claim that it is a potent charm for bringing luck and success in business and love. Everyone is of course aware of the sexual prowess of King Solomon and the extent of his fabulous treasure.

Lucky Charm

The brown diamond crystal stone has been cut and refined and crafted into jewelry, pendants, accessories and lucky charms. The stone is as precious as the price it fetches and the whole hoard is estimated to value more than billion-pesos in its raw form. It can cut through glass and other similar materials, which suggests its relation to pure diamond. Its waxy texture glows with natural translucence that is irresistible and magnetic. Its magical power is a mystery that invites to be discovered, tested and proven.
